history: rhiannon’s parents met at - where else? - a country music bar. it was the music that brought them together, as well as a few drinks. holly combs - a free-spirit singer from tennessee who never looked back - was rocking out to that band on the stage, as adam mcgraw - a guy from houston, back in his hometown, who didn’t know what he was going to do with his life - sat at the bar, ordering another round. eventually, they fell onto each other. literally.
a chance encounter that night grew into a full-blown relationship. despite objections from both sides of the family tree, holly and adam tied the knot. They were both young, beautiful, and unemployed. holly got the odd singing gig, and adam wanted to follow his dreams of seeing all of america. but with his parents’ urging, adam took a job as an accountant in dallas, taking his new wife with him.
The two newlyweds settled in dallas - with a little financial help from adam’s family -, with holly still looking to sing, and adam confined to a work-desk. even though life didn’t exactly work out the way they wanted, they were still in love. and out of that love, came little miss jodi lynn mcgraw. She was showered with love from the start, bringing both the combs and mcgraw clans together. after five years of living with just one child, adam and holly had built up a reasonable income, with adam’s job paying a stable amount.
and along came little miss rhiannon grace. rhiannon was a great big ball of energy - a polar-opposite to the passive and quiet jodi - and spent every minute smiling. as she grew up, holly taught her how to play guitar, amazed at rhiannon’s natural singing talent. at the age of 12, rhiannon inherited her mom’s prized gibson, and has never let go of it since. rhiannon loved living life in the south - it was like nothing could take her away from it.
that is, nothing except a job offer. on rhiannon’s 13th birthday, they mcgraw’s packed up the van and moved it out of dallas relocating to eastside, with the promise of more money. leaving the place she loved the most was painful. spending her birthday cooped up in a van, she held onto her mother’s guitar the whole time. it took rhiannon a long time to really settle down in eastside - she had trouble making friends, and even after three years, she still misses dallas. but what about now, where she’s far away from both?
