height: 5’9
weight: 145
build Slender/Fit
eyes: blue
hair: short and blonde (although occasionally died darker colors)
distinguishing features:typical ayrian look, ears which stick back, blue eyes, heart-shaped face.
tattoos and piercings: None
personal style: Straightforwardly, Mason’s a prep. That means in-style clothing, color coordination, and strict avoidance of punk or goth looking apparel. He’s also not one to just wake up in the morning and throw a pair of jeans on; he cares about what he wears…Usually he won’t wear anything too rambunctious or eye-drawing, but he does his best to look good and not have anything clash.
appearance: Mason’s appearance reflects his inner attitude. When looking upon the blonde-haired, blue eyed guy, you’ll find a sense of casualness. This is true; his relaxed smile and body posture reveals his inner feeling of calm. So used to meeting strangers, Mason is comfortable in his posture, although not slouchy. But because of his detail in clothing, he never really gives the impression of someone too relaxed or lazy. This sort of content happiness that he carries in his appearance sometimes causes him to look average in a group of many.

overall personality:
Content, casual, talkative, and comical, Mason has gotten used to moving a lot and therefore meeting new people. He’s very relaxed with himself and isn’t one to stress very often. He likes meeting new people, and enjoys music. One of his strengths is simply just having good people skills; being able to communicate very well and keep things casual. He’s great at making people laugh, having a fun time, and cheering people up. He can easily become friends with all kinds of people, and has a high patience level. However, usually to be able to get along with Mason, you’ll probably have to have some sense of humor and be fun to talk to. Mason is the type of person who likes to have a good time. His love for music also can make for some great experiences. However, Mason is also the type of person who doesn’t advertise his personality and strengths. Perhaps it’s that he has become so used to moving that he never expects to stay somewhere long enough for it to make any difference…so it usually takes a while for people around him to figure out just how great of a guy he can really be.
Mason’s all about enjoying himself, and making sure the people he’s with do too. However, it takes him awhile to get close to anyone…if he ever does at all. The fact that he does move so much has perhaps psychologically stopped him from wanting to develop close friendships. Instead, he just treats things light and casual. And when things do get serious, he’d rather be the person listening to another’s problems than actually talking about himself. In fact, Mason is actually quite talented at cheering people up and making them look at the positive side of things. Mason is also a bit of a pleaser; having a hard time letting people down. This is both a weakness and a strength, but most importantly, it does not change the fact that he has a difficulty with opening up to people.
Mason also has sort of a bad relationship with his dad and brothers. Quite frankly opposites with both of them, he has a hard time living up to their expectations and feels that his dad just wants him to fail. In that sense, he has a real goal to prove that he can be whoever he wants to be and still be successful in life. That is why he fears the future; because he doesn’t want it to turn out how his dad predicted it would. Now that he has crashed on an island, Mason wonders if it is meant to be for some reason and maybe he can get something out of it. Unlike others, he will most definitely not freak out and go crazy about it, and probably be one of the voices to reassure the others that it will be okay.

nationality: American
birthplace: Houston, Texas
history:
It all began with the wedding of his parents, a young, frail, and beautiful blonde Juliet Morell and Mason’s father, Howard Hills. The two were married in their home state, Virginia. Juliet, a recent graduate of high school, took up the task of getting her associate’s degree at a local college. Meanwhile, Howard, already enrolled at a university, was beginning to study the enginereering of planes. Two years later, Juliet happily discovered that she was pregnant. After getting her associates, she quit school, as her husband expected, and shortly thereafter gave birth to her first daughter, Kelly. Howard was a strict and moralistic man. He was extremely happy with the birth of his daughter, but also longed for a son. He quickly wanted to have another baby, but Juliet protested saying that at the time they were too poor. Howard, although usually uncompromising, finally agreed. He continued to work through college to get a master’s degree. Four years later, after receiving it, he began to work full time for the US Airforce. The family was relocated to an Airforce base in Nevada.
About a year later, Juliet gave birth to Howard’s pride, their son, Erik. Erik was built strong and even early both parents could tell that with his instinctive competitiveness and strong build he would probably become and excellent athlete. Shortly after that, the family was reassigned to the far country of South Africa. There stay there did not last long. They were soon assigned to a base in the Hawaiian Islands, where Juliet gave birth to two twin daughters, Natalie and Christina. It was at that point that Howard decided his family was full enough. He had the son he wanted, and three beautiful girls, not to mention that his work was getting tougher and tougher as he had been getting steady promotions.
Now Howard was given another new location; Budapest, Hungary. Defensively, Howard did not want his family living there. Authoritive and stern, he feared for his young family’s well-being in such a foreign country. The strict American wanted his children to grow up in more of a “patriotic” environment. So, Juliet took the children back to Virginia and raised them there. But that only lasted six months. Soon, Howard was reassigned yet again, this time, to Houston, Texas. The whole family made the move with him. And then, to both Juliet’s and Howard’s surprise, she discovered she was pregnant. It wasn’t planned, and was indeed viewed as an “accident” by Howard. However, being the “family-based” man he was, Howard put it in his mind to accept the new child coming into his family. This child was Mason. The family remarkably stayed in Houston for four long years. By the end of such years, much had changed in the home, and continued to do so for the years following. After leaving Houston, Howard agreed to take the family with him to his next area, Baltimore, Marlyand. Many other moves also followed in the years to come.
There was no denying that the Hills family was talented. Kelly, the oldest, took a special interest in music and art at a very young age. Howard was never offended by it in her early years because Kelly was very simplistic and conservative with her talent. She played beautiful relaxing music on the piano, made her father proud with her light, soft voice, and painted beautiful and charming scenery images. There wasn’t much conflict with her father about her choice of hobby until her late teenage years, when she began to pour more passion into her music and art that her father had never seen come from her before. Perhaps increasing her passion in her art and music was some sort of rebellion from her father’s strict but loving environment…But such “rebellion” didn’t last long. Soon Kelly graduated high school and went off to college. There, she harnessed her passion that she had previously put in art and music, and transferred it into business and school work. While on campus she met her husband, Stephen, and now both are highly successful in their work fields.
Erik, was the apple of his father’s eye, as well as to his school coaches and peers. The kid was an amazing athlete. He had discipline and endurance that coaches could go on and on about. His only obstacle in developing his athletic talents was the constant moving of his family. Finally, when Erik was nearing high school, the family discovered that they were moving once again. Erik refused. He wanted to play on a High School football team and found it impossible to ever achieve that if he was always going to be moving. Erik rarely ever underminded his father, but Howard agreed with Erik’s stance. He saw the scholarship potential in Erik, and was just overwhelmingly proud with Erik’s talent. So, they allowed Erik to move to Virginia with Howard’s sister and her family, and attend high school there. Erik, of course, made the team, and eventually became captain.
Mason’s older sisters, Natalie and Christina, were also very good at what they did. Natalie, like Kelly, had a real love for music, but Natalie took it in a different direction. Natalie was really passionate about performing arts, and took a special interest in musical theater. She was a natural at acting, and had a beautiful, powerful voice. She eventually became so talented that she was accepted to the covetated school of Julliard. Christina was more of a physical performer. She was a cheerleader and dancer in high school repeatedly, having to move a few times. Her grades weren’t the best, but good enough to keep her cheering. She often practiced routines or pieces at home, letting her music blast through the house. If her father had known this, he probably would have been angered, but since he was gone working so much, he never knew how often her music “disrupted” the home.
This was the environment Mason grew up in. As far as moving went, he spent his first four years in Texas, only to live another three years in Baltimore, followed by a move to Berlin, two years later he was in Puerto Rico, three years later he was in California, four years after that he was in Washington, then to Michigan, followed by a move to Arizona, and then finally his most recent move to New York City. With so many moves, it would seem like he would feel that his life is hectic. But that is not so. He has adapted.
Although his dad is strict, he works a lot. In the long run, Mason doesn’t see his dad very often, except for at dinner, which sometimes Mason doesn’t attend. Erik, it is seems, is just like his dad, serious, dedicated, and forceful when need be. Mason, well, Mason’s quite the opposite on many terms. Growing up, Mason spent most of his time surrounded by music one way or another, so naturally he gained something out of it. Like both Kelly and Natalie, he has a love for it. His mom arranged some voice lessons for him when he was younger, to his dad’s hesitancy, and after begging both of his parents for a guitar when he was nine, Kelly caught wind and bought him one. He also bought a few “teach yourself to play guitar books” and after studying them enough that he got good, Juliet finally put him in lessons, also to his dad’s hesitancy.
He also picked up some dancing, especially after watching Christina and Natalie practicing 24/7. And yes, you can imagine, this is also to his dad’s hesitancy, but Mason’s old man has lost entire control of the situation, and since he is so far distanced, he kind of has to stay out of it. Juliet tries her best to stay as the peacekeeper in the family, acting as a representative to both Mason and Howard to each other. Because the fact of the matter is, Mason has not turned out like how his dad has wanted. Mason could care less about Football, despite his dad’s constant encouragement of it when he was little. He also has no plans to join the Airforce, army, or any other sort of Armed Forces like his dad wants him to. But most importantly, their temperaments are just different. Mason’s just not like his dad, and since they don’t really see each other much, they don’t really understand each other. Sure, Howard has never really come out and said how much of a disappointment Mason is to him, but Mason can see it- the whole family can. In Arizona, when he was the only sibling in the house, he spent most of his time hanging out with friends and was rarely at home. He did his homework at the library, and ate dinner early before his dad got home. It really broke Juliet’s heart, but she understood the situation. She just wished both boys would stop being so stubborn.
But the person who probably understands Mason the most is probably Kelly. Although she never was a full disappointment to her dad, she understands what it’s like to feel different than her dad’s expectations. There was a time when she herself was totally at odds with Howard, at least in her head. During family Holidays, when everyone meets together, she tries her best to be supportive of Mason, as it can often be extremely awkward; especially with Howard’s overwhelming excitement and support of Erik. You can often feel the tension in the room. And to make things worse, Mason’s talkative and comical traits are often seen as disrespectful to Howard. It flat out makes Mason feel like his dad simply doesn’t like him for being himself, which even more, causes contention and anger.

roleplay sample: This is from a different character, and unfortunately, not much like Mason…
He could not help but note the indifference in her voice. The way her words slipped out; it was as if her words meant next to nothing to her, but the elephant in the room clearly proclaimed otherwise. Clearly, her self-inflicted pain was evident as he had examined her arm. Content with his findings, he let her arm go. But now he couldn’t help but dwell on her controlled tone. He watched her speak as he saw small signs of pain appear in her tension us neck and stressed jaw line. Nicely enough, the pain did not transfer to her words. She still maintained a tone of indifference. She evidently was greatly attempting to mask her emotions; and doing quite well at it. Anton, being extremely analytical and observant of people’s actions, while also generally being quite manipulative himself, was used to behaving in a similar way. In control of oneself, in control of one’s reactions; that was his way. Control of oneself meant more control of one’s surrounding environment, which lead to more control of those individuals of interaction. He was not the type to lose his temper; most of his actions were a result of pre-determined decisions, even as spontaneous as his actions could appear.
Disinherited; such a foreign word to him. But the attitude of the word itself implied wealth, something he should seem accustomed to. Yet, alas, the idea of being disinherited himself seemed so far off, nearly impossible. That just wasn’t his family’s way…it just seemed illogical. Even then, if such event was going to happen to Anton himself…well, he wouldn’t think of it in such terms, nor would his parents. The way the word cut, the situation; it was almost as if the word portrayed fault on the parents’ part immediately. But then again, there was a reason the girl had chosen such word to represent her economic state….However, it seemed so…traditional, like an ordinary choice of word from the English literature of the early nineteen century. And somehow, it failed to intrigue the older Ravenclaw. Perhaps it was the fact that the North-Eastern European did not identify well with the thought, although part of him felt like he should, being from a family of wealth himself.
"He's an unreasonable man. It's a long story."
Yet at this, something inside him desired to hear more. Perhaps it was a mere desire to become well informed about the girl. Perhaps it was intrigue about what the girl thought “unreasonable.” Perhaps, it was merely the desire to keep the girl talking; to watch her struggle to maintain her composure; a somewhat fascinating sight in itself. Or, perhaps, Anton Tarasov generally was concerned. It was probably a mixture of all options.
“I have time.” He said quickly. “I’d like to hear it.” He guessed that she’d quickly summed up a description of her father for a reason, but cared little. He wanted to know, and had quickly expressed his opinion. It had not been spoken in a demand, nor in a confident way. It was merely expressive.
As she began to introduce herself, he took careful note of her name; Siren Allaway. Her first name had a nice unique ring to it, without coming off to abnormal or odd. He was not surprised by her pronouncing that she belonged to Ravenclaw; as his instincts had told him he’d seen her in Ravenclaw robes before. And even so, although part of him had suspected her to be a Gryffindor, hence the temper, she’d put remarkable effort into concealing her pain and displaying a choice of intellectual words in her conversing wit himself. The latter was at least a sign of a Ravenclaw...However; there was something disturbing that he couldn’t place her. Anton was usually a very perceptive person, taking note of people’s names and faces, and keeping track of the students at least from Ravenclaw, in all close age groups. The fact that he did not know her name prior to her introduction was quite alarming. Had he truly turned his back to Siren all these years? Or was there something else to her story? He thirsted to know.
A sly smile spread across his face as she revealed to have seen him around. Anton, although manipulative and sometimes isolated; liked to be noticed. Perhaps that was what explained his attention-seeking behavior. He loved the spotlight, only despising it when working on projects of research and personal matters of secrecy. His daring, confident actions usually were not forgettable; although he was one to change his personality around different individuals. Yet, generally, he could be noted for a flamboyant sense of humor, that to some, was seen as cruel. However, at this moment, he was still trying to analyze Siren, and the confident mannerisms that usually Anton embraced, where far gone. However, as he spent more time around this girl, he was beginning to warm up to her more. He was getting more relaxed by the minute.
“Tarasov, Anton.” He replied, a flicker of a Russian accent notable in his pronunciation. Usually, having learned English at a young age, his accent of both Russian and Swedish (both having been learned as a “first language”) were only faintly noticeable, if at all. However, when it came to pronouncing Russian or Scandinavian words, such accent could clearer. “It’s a pleasure.” After speaking these words, he smiled ironically. How odd this encounter was…he was still trying to wrap his head around it. But at least now he was starting to warm up to her.
